Future Fest: 25 Years after Rodney King

Future Fest: 25 Years after Rodney King
April 28, 2017UMMA Clinic Admin
Date: April 29, 2017
Time: 10:30 am  to  5:00 pm

About the March:

FutureFest (http://southlaisthefuture.com/) will commence with a march at 11am from Florence & Normandie and will end at a vacant lot on 82nd and Vermont. The UMMA group will be mostly wearing UMMA shirts. You’re welcome to join us! Just look for a large group with the UMMA banner between 10:45am-11am!

Meeting place: Florence & Normandie (in front of Tom’s Liquor, the place where the riots started)

Meeting time: 10:45am

What to wear: It is going to be sunny and warm out with a gentle breeze (high temperature is 87!), so keep the weather in mind! Wear comfortable shows for lots of walking, and if you have any UMMA shirts, wear them!

What to bring: Water, sunblock, a hat, sunglasses if you wear them, comfortable shoes, a snack (since we’ll be active), and your energy! What are you marching for? Make/bring a sign!

Event schedule:

o    10:30am – Gathering

o    11am to 12pm: Rally Point (With live drumming!)

o    12pm to 1pm: March

o    1pm to 5pm: Future Fest

Entertainment: There will be live music and speeches by local community leaders. Musicians include:

  • Mariachi Arcoiris
  • Al Jackson
  • Josef Leimburg
  • Cuicani
  • DJ Phatrick
  • Medusa
  • Los Rakas

Staying social: Part of any event like this is getting the word out to the world! If you’re attending and snapping, posting on Facebook/Instagram, or tweeting, use the hashtags #SouthLAistheFuture and #UMMAClinic.
