TEACHING FACILITYIs one way that UMMA, which began as a student project, has stayed true to its roots.
Education is a cornerstone of UMMA, one of the multitude of ways that UMMA Community Clinic contributes to the well-being of society beyond providing medical health care to indigent patients.
Since it first opened its doors, UMMA has served as a teaching site for medical students and resident physicians from UCLA and other local institutions as part of their medical training. Our doctors have trained and mentored scores of trainees, who gain exposure to the medical and social issues unique to a multi-cultural inner city population.
The trainees experiences at UMMA become an important element of their professional development, eventually enriching their work as practicing caregivers. By providing medical education, UMMA helps produce compassionate, competent and culturally sensitive physicians. In addition to medical training, UMMA welcomes undergraduate student volunteers, who gain valuable exposure to health care and social issue; their experience at UMMA contributes to their intellectual maturity and develops them as conscientious and ethical members of society.
