![]() BOARD OF DIRECTORSThe members of UMMA’s Board of Directors have a strong commitment to health care in South Los Angeles.Our board members possess diverse skills, in such areas as finance, law, business, health care and social services. Consumer members, who live in our area and receive UMMA’s services, help ensure responsiveness to local need, as does the diversity of our board. The board of directors are responsible for strategic oversight of the organization, and for ensuring that our work adheres to the teachings of the Muslim faith. They provide thoughtful governance to ensure sound business and financial practices; rigorous, ethical management; and delivery of high-quality, effective medical services.
Murtaza Sanwari, MPH (CHAIRMAN) Mr. Sanwari is currently the director of strategic planning and decision support at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center. He is also currently a Fellow in the American Muslim Civic Leadership Institute. He received his bachelor’s degree in health care administration from California State University, Northridge, and his master’s degree in public health from San Diego State University. Paul Wong, Esq. (vice chairman) Mr. Wong has served on UMMA’s board since 2005. He is an attorney in UMMA’s service area and voluntarily gives his time and expertise to the community. He earned his law degree from Boston University in 1993 and holds a master’s in public health with an emphasis in health law from Boston University. Raziya Shaikh, PhD (treasurer) Dr. Shaikh, a founding board member, served as the first clinic manager from 1996 to 1997. She graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles with a bachelor’s of science in biochemistry, and subsequently received her doctorate from the University of California, San Diego in biology. Dr. Shaikh also holds a master’s in business administration from the University of Southern California. Norma Arambula (secretary) Ms. Arambula is a preschool teacher at Riviera Hall Lutheran Preschool and is currently taking classes at El Camino Community College. Ms. Arambula, a consumer member, is also involved in fundraising for several local community organizations, and has brought her skills to UMMA in this arena. Munaf Kadri, MD Dr. Kadri is a founding board member of UMMA. He has volunteered as a pediatrician since 1997. He received his medical degree from the University of California, Irvine, and completed his residency at the Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital. He is board- certified in pediatrics and neonatology. Dr. Kadri is also an assistant professor at Loma Linda University in the division of neonatology. Li’i Isoko Furumoto Ms. Furumoto, a consumer member, co-founded and volunteers as coordinator of the Chicana/o Indigenous Youth Initiative, which promotes cultural awareness, civic engagement and academic achievement among Hispanic youth in Los Angeles. Ms. Furumoto also works as a community organizer for the Asian Pacific American Legal Center’s Youth and Parent Leadership Development Project. Rasheeda Rogers Ms. Rogers, a consumer member, has been active in the local community for more than 10 years. She has participated and served on the boards of several nonprofit organizations, including Niswa Association & ILM foundation. She is African American and employed with Time Warner Cable Company. Naim Shah, Sr. Mr. Shah, a consumer member, works in the UMMA service area and is medically uninsured. Mr. Shah is one of the founders of Intellect, Love and Mercy (ILM) Foundation, a faith-based nonprofit organization. Mr. Shah has 45 years experience in community service, and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in African Studies and a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Cal State Long Beach. Khaliq Siddiq, MD Dr. Siddiq is an UMMA co-founder. He currently serves as the medical director at St. Jude Heritage Medical Group. Dr. Siddiq holds both a medical degree and a master’s degree in public health from the UCLA. ADRIAN CID URIBE, ESQ.
Mr. Uribe is a Los Angeles attorney. After graduating from UCLA he taught middle school in the inner city for Teach for America and KIPP: He then received his law degree from UC Davis Law. He now works to represent the rights and interests of the undeserved and disadvantaged through out Southern California. Vivianna Trujillo
